The Meridian District is Yankton's historic downtown. It lies right along the Missouri River and was the epicenter of action during the 19th century when the Dakota Territory was being established by pioneers. The city of Yankton grew out of this historic riverport area and still boasts architecture and landmarks that gave Yankton its start.
